The Pondo Wild Man: Logistics
Getting there:
The Pondo Wild Man begins at Port Edward between 7.30 am and 8 am on 21 January 2025. Exact meeting time and place will be communicated. You will need to spend the night before in Port Edward. There are a few options for getting to Port Edward:
Option 1: Fly into King Shaka International Airport, Durban, the day before (20th January) and transfer directly to Port Edward for the night.
Option 2: If you are travelling from JHB, you may prefer to fly into Margate airport and transfer directly to Port Edward for the night.
Option 3: By private charter
Accommodation for the night of 20th January in Port Edward:
Estuary Hotel (catered)
Port Edward Holiday Resort (self-catered).
Getting home:
Option 1: Road transfer back to King Shaka International Airport or Umtata Airport. No flights should be booked before 5pm.
Option 2: By private charter
Conservation Levy:
Please note that as of January 2024, Mkambati Trust implemented a mandatory conservation levy of ZAR 300pp. This levy is payable by any person wanting to traverse through the northern section of the Mkambati Nature Reserve. These funds are used for ongoing conservation initiatives and projects within the park
